Beading & Being: Waist Bead Workshop

This workshop invites women into a deeper understanding of femininity through a West African lens, with a focus on Senegalese traditions of adornment and self-expression. Rooted in culture and intention, we will explore the meaning behind waist beads; not only as jewelry, but as a practice connected to identity, body awareness, and feminine presence.

Participants can expect an intimate and grounding experience centred on West African understandings of femininity, adornment, and self-connection. We’ll explore the cultural and historical significance of waist beads in Senegambia and broader West African traditions, and how they relate to identity, womanhood, and embodiment. There will also be a guided, hands-on session in which each participant will learn to bead and create their own waist beads traditionally. The space will be reflective, welcoming, and rooted in both cultural appreciation and personal expression.
